How to Apply
I understand that you are a student who is currently not registered at Iowa State interested in studying abroad via Summer Seminar for Spanish Teachers in Caceres, Spain program this summer. We are happy to know you are interested in the program.
There are two steps in applying. Please read the instructions below fully. The first step involves getting on to ISUAbroad. The second step involves faxing an application to be a non-degree seeking student. The instructions below outline everything that needs to be done in order to apply for the program.
Search for your program
You can begin your application on ISUAbroad at http://isuabroad.iastate.edu/
To find the program, use the Simple Search feature by clicking Programs in the upper right of the screen. Use these search parameters:
Name: “summer seminar” (please include quotes in your search)
Term: Summer
Country: Spain
Then, click the blue link of the Program Name. Once on the page for the program, click on the Apply Now button at either the top or bottom of the page to start an application.
ISUAbroad and your Digital Signature
Since you are not an ISU student, you will be asked within ISUAbroad to fill out and fax (or send as a PDF or by U.S. Postal Service) a digital signature verification to the Study Abroad Center, 3224 Memorial Union, Ames, IA 50011-1133; [email protected]. Once we receive the form, you will be given full access to the rest of ISUAbroad to continue working on your application.
ISUAbroad and On-Line Application Materials
When you log in to ISUAbroad, the material submissions and questionnaires will be available to you. Please let me know if that is not the case. Items you will need to complete:
- You will also have to read a series of documents, agree, and digitally "sign” them.
- You will also need to paste in or upload (in .doc format) a grade report/transcript from your home university.
- Complete the Personal Questionnaire for Short-term programs describing your plans for studying abroad.
Upon acceptance into the program, you will need to log in to ISUAbroad and confirm your acceptance of the offer to participate by clicking the “Commit” button. An applicant must commit by March 30. At that point, you are subject to study abroad withdrawal fees per the Statement on Fees in the Financial Agreement that you sign in the application. I recommend that you go ahead and commit, even if you are unsure about your ability to participate. Please contact me ([email protected]) or the Program Director (Julie Wilhelm, [email protected]) if you have a concern; however, it is important to commit as soon as possible to facilitate registration, billing, and financial aid (if applicable) from your own university being processed properly. As you know, the deadline to apply is March 15 for the initial pre-decision phase. Once accepted, you will also find a series of other forms to fill out: housing arrangements, medical history, insurance, flight arrangements, etc. Some of these will appear right away, some will become available as they are ready for you to complete. Please check your application every week or two to see if we need additional information from you and watch for e-mail from ISUAbroad that will prompt you for other missing items.
Non-Degree Application
In addition to the on-line application through ISUAbroad, you will need to apply to ISU as a non-degree student for purposes of billing and registration. Here is the link to apply online:
https://www.admissions.iastate.edu/apply/online/activity.php
1. Create an account and then start the non-degree application on-line
2. In the application for admission page that comes up after starting an account, be sure to click the button for Non-degree Graduate; also click the dropdown for Summer 2013 as the term
3. Once in the application, on #9 please select "other" in the dropdown menu and type in "Summer Seminar in Spain for Spanish Teachers" in the box.
4. Continue to the second page by clicking "Save" and "Continue". There complete the course term as "Summer" and "2013", "SPAN" as the course department, "590C" as the course number, and "SP" as the section, and "2 credits" in the dropdown menu. Click Save and Continue

Billing
The program fee of $1800 and the study abroad fee of $105, along with ISU tuition and fees for 2 credits will be due on May 20th.
You can see your bill by logging into AccessPlus. See below for instructions on how to open an account.
Orientations
Please keep in mind that the Program Director holds an orientation for this program. As a student external to ISU, it may be difficult for you to attend, but it is required. Contact the Director if you have extenuating circumstances.
For the questionnaire about Orientation in the pre-decision section of the online application, please mark "I Have a Conflict with All Sessions", and we will check it in the post-decision phase of your application as complete once materials have been sent out AND you have acknowledged via email that you’ve read them.
AccessPlus
Once you are accepted to ISU as a non-degree-seeking student, you can set up an account through AccessPlus—a system that allows you to see your U-bill and course registration and has many other features. https://accessplus.iastate.edu/frontdoor/login.jsp
You will need a Confirmation Number (part of your acceptance materials from the Admissions Office) to create an account. Alternatively, if you have been assigned a University ID for ISU, you can use that or your Social Security Number and a password to log in for the first time. The default password is your birth date in numbers. For example, if you were born on November 12, 1992, your password would be 11121992. You should then change your password after you are in the system.
ISU Credits
Once you are enrolled in classes for the Summer Seminar study abroad program, you will see the 2 credits of Spanish 590C you plan to take abroad. After the program is over, we will send you a transcript from Iowa State University and notify you to ask where we may send you the original.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the application process or the program.
